Outreach Ministries

Aldersgate United Methodist Church is very mission oriented, with its people serving the community and the world through their time, their talents, and their resources. Much of our work is done at the local level, where we serve many different needs. While much of this service is in the form of funds donated from Aldersgate’s Missions budget, a great deal of the service is in the form of hands-on work. Many local organizations have great need for talented, highly-motivated volunteers, and – time and time again – Aldersgate’s membership has filled the need: making home deliveries of food to the needy, doing maintenance, warehousing and repair work for charities, or by serving at the Soup kitchen. We also serve beyond the local level, sending volunteers on mission trips to various parts of Georgia, Appalachia, Louisiana, and other places. Some of our members have served as far away as Haiti and Africa.

MISSIONS PRAYER CALENDAR

The Missions Committee sponsors the following agencies and projects:

Members of Aldersgate are actively involved in many vital outreach ministries including:

Bereaved Parents of the USA (BP/USA)
Bereaved Parents was founded in 1995 by a group of bereaved parents from across the country. Their sole purpose for organizing this group was to offer support, understanding, encouragement and hope to other bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents after the death of their children, brother, sister or grandchildren. This purpose remains the thrust of BP/USA today. Meetings are held at Aldersgate the third Tuesday of each month in the Family Life Center. For more information call 803-279-8179.

BrEaST Friends
The Breast Cancer Support Ministry is up and running. If you should discover a lump or receive a diagnosis, we are here for you. We’re available anytime to listen, comfort, encourage, take to appointments and treatments, sit with families during surgeries, and most importantly to pray. Many women may want privacy during this time and that will always be honored, both anonymity and confidentiality if requested. Although much more rare, breast cancer can occur in men and the same ministry is available to them. Additionally, services are also available for spouses and families. Simply call the church or speak to any of the BrEaST FRIENDS.

Interfaith Hospitality Network
Interfaith Hospitality Network of Augusta exists to provide families who are in transition a clean, safe place to live while regaining their independence. Aldersgate hosts up to 3 families (up to 14 guests) for one week every 3 months. Approximately 75 volunteers from out congregation serve in a variety of ways while our guests are here. We are one of 13 churches united to serve Christ through this ministry. Volunteers provide personal support and compassion to our guests. They talk to them and listen to them. They treat them with respect. They are a source of hope when hope has been lost. Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve meals, visit with guests, and stay over night. Volunteers are also needed to help set up, take down, and serve as van drivers. All are welcome to serve!

Shepherd Ministry
The Shepherd Ministry seeks to maintain the connection between the Church and our homebound members. When someone can no longer go to church, we go to them! There are four elements of this ministry that we invite you to become a part of, or, if you have a homebound family member, we can be of service to you. The elements of this ministry include:

If you would like to volunteer for this ministry or add a name to the homebound list, please call the church office at 706-733-4416.

River of Life Mission
River of Life is a ministry to the economically poor and elderly families throughout the North Ga. Conference. There are several separate events planned each summer. Each day our work teams will go out to "minister" by painting, reroofing homes, building wheelchair ramps and porches, etc. River of Life Mission Advance is a series of camps like no other you've attended. The youth of Aldersgate participate with dozens of churches who come together for five days dedicated to serving others.  Through it we will all experience the love of Christ in new and exciting ways!
