History

It was in 1738 at a prayer meeting on Aldersgate St. in London, England, that John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, had a climactic experience of Christ: "I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ alone for salvation; and an assurance was given me that He had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death."

Wesley went on to share this new love in his heart with people throughout England. Today, the people of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Augusta, Georgia, share this same love with all who join us in worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Aldersgate United Methodist church began on September 9, 1962, when ten families joined hands and took a great step of faith in organizing a new Methodist Church.

Over the past decades Aldersgate has become one of the most dynamic churches in the North Georgia Conference.
